2027 CAMERA MAGAZINE IMAGING AWARDS • After promising signs of recovery in 2025, the camera industry has again faced a challenging year - as have many others - and mostly all due to external circumstances too. However, in quite a lean last 12 months, there have been some definite highlights which suggest there’s still a strong underlying faith in the market.
PEN FRIEND • The digital PEN is back, this time under the OM System branding, but with plenty of Olympus DNA still in evidence. It’s another serious contender if you’re looking a compact, but capable carry-anywhere camera.

THE SPIRIT OF THE BUSH 2026 • The challenges and rewards of rural life in Australia are celebrated in this year’s edition of the Spirit of the Bush photography competition run by charity Rural Aid.
A BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO THE PRO-LEVEL DIGITAL CINEMA CAMERA • We know very few you are likely to be rushing out to buy a pro cine camera, but given in involvement of the ‘traditional’ photo brands in this area, we thought it would be interesting to look at the typical feature set to see what’s important to these users. We’ve picked Fujifilm’s GFX Eterna 55 because it has the same lens mount and 102 megapixel sensor as the GFX series mirrorless cameras.

POWER RANGER • Nikon has built its 28-135mm power zoom with video-makers primarily in mind, but the focal range, optical performance and its visual look all make it appealing for photography too.

GO LONG, GO EASY • If the Fujinon XF 200mm f/2.0 is too short – and possibly too expensive – and the XF 500mm f/5.6 is too long… how about the ‘Goldilocks’ 400mm f/4.5 then? The price could be right too.

PANON WIDELUX F SERIES • These are the cameras that, in one way or another, had a significant influence on photographers and photography. The 35mm Wideluxes enabled panorama photography with a relatively compact and easy-to-use camera, making the wide format more accessible. The portability was particularly welcomed by landscape photographers trekking into remote locations, but the Widelux F models found… ahem… wider applications too.
