JOHN'S LIFE WITH LORRIES
NEWS
RARE 1955 FODEN HEADS TO NEWARK VINTAGE TRACTOR & HERITAGE SHOW • One of only around half a dozen surviving examples of Foden's short-lived FE4/8 will make its Newark debut this November, as a Kent family swaps steel wheels for a lorry in the show's commercial classes.
PD's archive • This month’s selection of period working shots reflects the progressive changes that happened in the haulage industry between the 1950s and the 1980s. Eight-wheelers with sheeted loads gave way to a new breed of European imports hauling continental style tilts followed by enclosed curtainsided trailers and ISO containers on skeletals. Flat lorries didn’t entirely die out of course and specialised vehicles like bulk liquid tankers and removal vans will always have a role to play.

WRECKER TO THE RESCUE • Originally supplied as a water tanker to the War Department, this 1953 Morris-Commercial MRA.1, like many, was converted into a recovery truck once it had been 'demobbed'.
